Elon Musk will buy Twitter. After weeks of discussions, the Twitter board has accepted the proposal of the Tesla boss. Musk has offered $44 billion to take over the American company.
In addition to his roles as CEO and CTO of SpaceX, the famous aerospace company, and CEO and product architect of the famous electric car company Tesla, Neuralink’s Elon Reeve Musk will also occupy the role of owner of Twitter. The co-founder of Paypal and OpenAI has in fact decided to invest a share of his money in Twitter to change and improve – according to him – the social media platform. But how many Twitter users are there today? What is the value of Twitter shares? Let’s find out together.
Elon Musk Twitter
Elon Musk recently decided to buy Twitter for a sum of 44 billion dollars. A portion of the investment – as stated – will be covered by equity. Another will be covered by bank financing. According to Elon Musk’s first statements on Twitter, the idea is to take Twitter off the stock market in order to make the necessary changes for improvement.
Twitter’s shares are currently worth $51.70 as of 25 April 2022. That’s up from $33 in the first weeks of March. In fact, Twitter’s share price is now one of the best in recent years. In fact, there have been three major peaks in terms of value. The first, in the early days of 2014, when Twitter’s shares hit $69. The second in February 2021 when the shares went over $70 and the third in mid-2021 when they reached $75.
Twitter User 2010/2021
Twitter was launched on 15 July 2006. Since then, Twitter, like other social media, has continued to grow. As we have seen, this growth has also led Tesla inventor Elon Musk to want to buy the platform. But in terms of users, how has Twitter evolved? It is estimated that the average number of active Twitter users in 2021 was 396.5 million.
The 2021 figure is up from 2020, when there were 353 million monthly worldwide (active) users. In general, it can be seen that the growth was very strong at least from 2010 to 2014. From 2014, the figure stabilised until 2019, when it reached 330 million, and then began to grow again in 2020 and 2021, reaching almost 400 million monthly active users.
Twitter User by Country
If the monthly active Twitter users were almost 400 million, we will now see which countries have the most Twitter users. The top country in the world for Twitter users is the United States. In the United States, the number of active users is 76.90 million.
If the United States is the first country in the world for the number of Twitter users, Japan is in second place. As of January 2022, there were 59.95 million monthly users in Japan. In third place is India, with 23.60 million users.
Twitter is also the fourth most viewed website in the world today. In total, more than 7 billion people visited this social media site worldwide in January 2022.
History’s greatest purchases
According to figures recently published by Statista, Musk’s purchase is one of the largest in history. At $44 billion, it is the second-largest leveraged buyout in history. Elon Musk’s figure for the purchase of Twitter was only exceeded in 2007. In that year, Energy Future Holdings was bought by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, TPG Capital and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners for a little more than Musk’s figure.
