Elite Public Universities Dropping Admission Rate
All students want to join the best university. They are turning out to be competitive to get into a college which will help them gain the best education along with creative and professional knowledge.
Due to this reason, college admission trends are getting more competitive. In the table below, we have shown the dropped admission rate from the year 2002 to 2022:
As shown in the above figure the rates have either decreased or been constant.
Recently there was an analysis made by The Hill of the data enrollment of 18 elite public universities. It was found that the average admission rate of 31% in 2022 was made after a decrement of 47% in 2012 and 52% in 2002 respectively.
By the end of this decade, the 10-campus University of California (UC) has announced to increase in the number of students to reach 23,000 students. The capacity of the university is said to increase with the help of foreign students, who are willing to pay higher tuition.
According to Ozan Jaquette, an Assitant Professor of higher education at UCLA, “In the last four years, California has dramatically increased funding to UCs, but on the condition that they dramatically increase enrollment of California residents.”
Similarly, The University of Texas has assured admission to students who have been toppers in their high-school classes. In all these years, Texas has equally struggled to find space. Considering that the state’s 10% law applies to only the top 6% of students.
All these actions are taking place to remove the formerly adopted bias selection process throughout the country.
According to Andrew Borst, director of undergraduate admissions, “We have plenty of seats for qualified residents but that doesn’t stop frustrated parents – it’s usually parents – from calling and saying, ‘I can’t believe that my son or daughter didn’t get X.”
