1 Santonio Holmes of the Steelers helped his team win the 2008 season.
With the 2023 NFL season officially beginning, the whole continent is excited for their favorite teams and players. The regular season will span the months of September 2023 to January 2024 with the playoffs taking place at the end on January 13, 2024. The trophy game, Super Bowl LVII, will be held on February 11, 2024, at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
The beginning of the NFL regular season is also the time when most fans of the game pick their favorite players and teams, weighing the odds and challenges—learning from past performances and scores.
Predicting who will win the Super Bowl is also a hobby for many. The regular season is when all of this action begins as the data from here goes directly into analyzing the chances of a team in the season’s ultimate game. In fact, it’s the hottest time for all types of NFL spreads and betting activity, especially now, with NFL betting becoming increasingly legal across North America.
In fact, we already see some teams soaring, like the Bengals are favored -130 against the Rams at +110. Also, there’s a higher likelihood that an AFC team will perform the best (-135 against +110 for the NFC).
Below, we’re listing the top 10 NFL teams that have won the most Super Bowls. Anything that caught you by surprise?
1. Pittsburgh Steelers—6 Wins
With a win percentage of .750, the Steelers won in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005, and 2008.
As one of the traditionally superior and stronger teams whose era of unparalleled performance in the 1970s is still termed one of the golden ages of football, the Steelers have shown their power numerous times.
More recently, however, their form has deteriorated due to a variety of reasons. They’re currently much, much below in all types of odds and stats.
2. Boston/New England Patriots—6 Wins
Boasting of a win percentage of .545, the Patriots won in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
The time of the Patriots, much like that of the Steelers, is past. But we’ve seen some amazing improvements in the team’s coordination over the years, which makes us hopeful of a better regular season.
Still, don’t expect the Patriots to win the Super Bowl any more than the Giants, Buccaneers, Steelers, or the Vikings.
3. San Francisco 49ers—5 Wins
With a win percentage of .714, the 49ers won in 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989, and 1994.
With a powerful defensive live that seems to be improving even more, they have elite pass rushers and disruptive defense linemen making the team one of the hardest to break through for opponent quarterbacks.
The 49ers are on more than just one list! Jerry Rice, the wide receiver for 20 seasons of the NFL leads our list of the top 10 players with the most touchdowns in the league’s history!
4. Dallas Cowboys—5 Wins
With a win percentage of .625, the Cowboys won in 1971, 1977, 1992, 1993, and 1995.
The Cowboys have always been a formidable opponent. More recently, they have begun to be a challenger worthy of their fame. For example, they opened their 2023 season with an overwhelming 40-0 match against the Giants!
5. New York Giants—4 Wins
With a win percentage of .800, the Giants won in 1986, 1990, 2007, and 2011.
The Giants share the pedestal with the Patriots for teams whose seasons are already on the line, according to Bleacher Report. Essentially, since the AFL-NFL merger of 1970, less than 10% of the teams with a 0-2 start make it to the playoffs. The 0-2 starter is also unlikely to win any Super Bowl, with only three teams having pulled that off ever.
Both the Giants and the Patriots have had a 0-2 start, but hey, that doesn’t make their past accomplishments any less spectacular!
6. Green Bay Packers—4 Wins
With a win percentage of .800, the Packers won in 1966, 1967, 1996, and 2010.
The Packers are known for their iconic QB histories. From Bart Starr to Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, they have had some excellent players from time to time who contributed to their Super Bowl wins.
7. Kansas City Chiefs—3 Wins
With a win percentage of .600, the Chiefs won in 1969, 2019, and most recently in 2022, the last season.
The Chiefs are actually one of the leading favorites for the 2023 season/2024 Super Bowl. The primary force behind this hope is the powerhouse QB Patrick Mahomes.
Also, it’s notable that the team has been in excellent form for the past few years. Their hard work culminated in a Super Bowl win in the 2019 season and then in the 2022 season.
8. Denver Broncos—3 Wins
Boasting of a win percentage of .375, the Broncos won in 1997, 1998, and 2015.
Though it’s well-known that the higher altitude of the Broncos’ home field gives them an advantage over low-altitude players, their Super Bowl wins have been as much about skill as the slight edge.
9. Washington Commanders/Redskins—3 Wins
With a win percentage of .600, the Commanders won in 1982, 1987, and 1991.
The team boasts of a rich tradition of employing top-of-the-line football defense, which has made them very hard to tackle or overwhelm. This has been crucial for their Super Bowl wins and many achievements over the years.
10. Los Angeles/Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders—3 Wins
Marking a win percentage of .600, the Raiders won in 1976, 1980, and 1983.
The Raiders are fueled by the Raider Nation enthusiasm—It’s a whole thing. The team is tough and well-known for its offense, and we hope to see some amazing action from their frontline this season as well.
