Most Popular Mobile Phone Brand 2021
Which are the most popular phone brands? In September 2021, Samsung was the world’s best-selling phone brand. With 27.55% of the total, Samsung is the world’s number one selling phone brand. In second place, again in September 2021, is Apple, with 26.75% of total sales. In third place, 15 points behind, is Xiaomi with 11.51%. In the top 15 worldwide, Nokia closes the ranking with 0.58%. Nokia, which until a few years ago was the leading brand in terms of the number of phones sold.
In April 2010, we no longer find Apple or Samsung in first place, but Nokia. Nokia has for many years been the leader among the various brands of telephony. To name just one phone, the Nokia 3310 has sold over 126 million units since 2000. And in 2010, thanks to the release of the Nokia 1280, the brand managed to sell over 100 million units with this phone alone.
Most selling phone in history
Nokia was for years the brand that sold the most phones in the world. In recent years it has been overtaken by Apple and Samsung. But which are the best-selling phones in history? Among the top 10 best-selling phones in the world, eight are from the world of Nokia. At the top of the list are two ‘historic’ phones. The Nokia 1100 and the Nokia 1110. The Nokia 1100 was announced in August 2003 and by the end of the year 250 million units had already been sold. The strength of the Nokia 1100 was also given by its low cost, which allowed the mobile phone to be sold also in developing countries.
Among the best-selling phones, as mentioned, was also the Nokia 1100 and the Nokia 1110i. This model, first sold in 2005, also leads the list of the world’s best-selling phones with over 250 million models sold.
The third best-selling phone in the world is Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. This smartphone is also the world’s first touchscreen in terms of number of sales. First sold in 2014, it currently sees 222 million units sold worldwide.
Interestingly, most of the phones in the top 10 are not touchscreen phones. In fact, only two of the top ten have a touchscreen function: the iPhone 6 and the Nokia 5230.
Best Selling Mobile Phones 2020
But what are the best-selling phones in the world in 2020? Topping the list of best-selling phones in 2020 are Apple’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12mini with over 38 million units sold. In second place are the Samsung Galaxy: S20, S20+, Ultra with over 28 million sold. And in third place again Apple with the second generation iPhone SE and over 24 million units sold. The first six positions among the best-selling phones are covered by Apple and Samsung alternating. In seventh place is the Xiami Redmi Note 9 Pro, which sold more than 15 million units worldwide in 2020.
